Avery's 3-yr check-up
Friday, Avery had her 3-yr check-up. I didn't necessarily go with any concerns this time, just anxious to see how big she's getting. It seems like over night she turned in to this grown up little girl.
As it turns out, she's still not easy going. She wouldn't do the eye test, hearing test, stand on the scale or stand to get measured. She has to make everything difficult!
They weighed her at 30 lb 3.3 oz and that puts her in the 45%tile.
She was measured at 3' 0.3" tall and in the 31%tile.
For BMI, she's in the 63%tile.
Based on what they say she is "learning now" and what she actually knows, she is ahead of the game!
-Plays well with other children
-Copies a circle and lines
-Rides tricycle
-Jumps forward
-Uses 3 word sentences
-Uses pronouns
-Knows 3 colors
-Counts up to 3
-Uses toilet during the day
-Puts on t-shirt by self
-Sings and dances
-Likes make - believe play
What your child will be learning next:
-Full sentences
-Can deliver a message
-Can have a conversation
-Uses "in," "on" and "under" when talking
-Likes pretend play
-Draws a person
-Dresses by self
-Knows 5 or more colors
-Listens to whole stories
-Hops and balances on 1 foot
-Says full name and age
-Matches a picture and object
Luckily for Avery, she doesn't have to go back till her 4-year well check!

Ariana's 6-month check-up
I had Ariana to the doctor today for her 6-month check up. Doc was pleased to see her so happy and "talking"!
She weighs 13 lb 11.9 oz which puts her in the 8 %ile based on her weight-for-age.
She is 2' 2.5" and in the 70 %ile based on her length.
Her head is 16.5" around and shes in the 37 %ile for head circumference.
We talked about a number of things. First, they were very happy that she is sleeping in her room, in her crib! I still have two issues to work on. Feeding/bottles and getting her to de-tatch a bit.
I have started feeding her real food. She has rice cereal and a fruit in the morning and sometimes rice cereal with a vegetable/starch in the evening. She is finally doing really well with eating and especially loves her cereal, bananas and orange foods such as sweet potatoes, squash and carrots.
I've started giving her some prune juice every day but learned that the fruit is better for her. The doctor said foods that begin with the letter "P" help with poop!
Because she is slowly growing (in weight), I am going to start feeding her food at lunchtime too. I can actually try her on yogurt! I am also going to try to introduce the bottle (with either breast-milk or formula) again. Fingers crossed that works and we can definitely see she's getting "enough" to drink.
Right now Ariana is back up to waking and feeding three times a night which is at least two to many! They want me to go in when she cries and try to consol her, and not feed her. I really don't think that will work, but I will try. The hard part here is, I don't want her to wake the other girls sleeping.
As of now, she has no signs of teeth coming in.
Here is what they say she is learning now:
Looks at objects as they move across the room
Sits with support and rolls over
Reaches and grasps toys
Shakes and bangs rattles reaches for book
Makes sounds
Turns head towards sounds
Known own name
Stands with help
What we can do to encourage her development:
Share books together
Point and name pictures
Take and sing to your child
Play with your child on the floor
Make music part of each day
Create a safe environment for exploring
Use big smiles and big gestures
Praise your baby
What she will be learning next:
Stands by holding onto things
Crawls
Waves bye-bye and uses other gestures
Plays peek-a-boo and pat-a-cake
Enjoys looking at books with an adult
Enjoys dump and fill toys
Enjoys pull and push toys
Grasp small objects with thumb and finger
Will continue to shake, bang, throw and drop rattles
Imitates and enjoys many different sounds
Toys and games for a 6-month old:
Rattles
Mirrors
Activity centers
Soft or board books
Squeaky toys
Mommy or Daddy's face

Alexis's progress report - 2014-2015 2nd semester
Alexis's teachers are very happy with her and love having her in their class. Here is what they wrote on her progress report.
Pre-Reading/Language Milestones - "Alexis enjoys both listening and "reading" stories. She is often observed being the "teacher" and reading a book to her friends. Alexis has grown very confident in recognizing and writing her letters."
Cognitive/Math Milestones - "Using our manipulatives in our classroom, Alexis can create a simple ABAB pattern. She has also started creating ABBA patterns. Time is a subject that interests Alexis. She is always asking what time is it and wants to know what the hands on the clock represent.
Multicultural/Social Studies Milestones - "Alexis loves learning about her community and everything that is associated with it. She plays very nicely with friends and is willing to share. Alexis plays very nicely with friends and is cooperative while doing so. She has also taken a liking to all of the languages we have learned over the course of the semester."
Science Milestones - "Alexis enjoys keeping tabs on our class pets and informing the class what is going on. Whenever we are learning about animals, she is very interested. Before an experiment, Alexis will make a prediction to what she thinks is going to happen. She will identify what makes something living and nonliving."
Technology Milestones - "Alexis works at an age appropriate level on the computer. She knows how to use a mouse correctly, and is able to log on and off. Alexis is very confident when maneuvering on the computer. She know exactly where all of the programs are located, and their purpose."
Physical Milestones - "Alexis enjoys completing puzzles both independently and dependently. She has also been observed zipping her jacket without assistance. Alexis absolutely loves to hop and skip. Whether we are inside or outside, she creates her own "Hopscotch" board to hop on."
Art/Music Milestones - "Just recently, Alexis has become very comfortable in our music activities. She likes using the instruments and showing off her dance moves. Alexis is very detailed in her artwork and draws great representations of items. She takes pride in her work and cannot wait to show it off."
2nd Semester comments - "It has been a pleasure having Alexis in our class this year! She has brought a love of learning new things and wanting to be involved with everything. Alexis has mastered writing her name order and in a straight line. We are now going to work with her on writing all words in the proper formation. Alexis also truly enjoys writing and tries to write various letters and "words." We are going to take this love of writing and increase the amount of writing in her journal. We will also challenge Alexis with learning a variety of ways to count, such as by fives and tens. We are looking forward to watching Alexis continue to grow over next year!"
I love an appreciate how her teachers see Alexis's love of learning. She is extremely observant, asks a lot of questions and remembers everything! She continues to love school and gets excited about learning new things. She is always surprising me with what all she knows. She is brilliant!

Happy 3rd Birthday to our Little Monkey Avery!
Today was a very BIG and exciting day for Avery!
She woke up to 3 birthday balloons in her room! She then came down stairs and threw out her paci! She did it! She opened presents, had a fun breakfast, a play-date with a friend, lunch out, played in the gym area, had a birthday cupcake, got a new bike and watched fireworks! A memorable birthday to say the least!
The Birthday flag is out! Happy Birthday to this beautiful girl!
Festivities really started last night when she opened her presents from Grammy, Grandpa and Aunt Kristy. Thanks all!
This morning she opened the book, "Guess How Much I Love You," the game Alphabet Bingo and an Alphabet puzzle which she mastered right away!
Of course we had to take her picture with George!
Playing in the climbing area at BK!
My girls are looking out that red area!
Cheese!
Singing Happy Birthday!
Her new Hello Kitty bike! (She's got room to grow in to this bike!)
The party picks up again on Saturday with her friends from school at the bowling alley. Two hours of Glow Bowling, pizza and cupcakes! Sunday we will be having a small family gathering with a wild animal theme! Fitting, right? She's excited to see everyone, have fun and eat more cake!
Avery keeps us on our toes but we are often caught saying "she's so adorable"! She has the biggest smile, lovable to all and extremely smart! The last line of the book she got (which we read at bedtime tonight) reads "I love you to the moon and back!" That's our thought exactly! She is one precious little girl who brings us lots of joy! We love you Avery Slay!
Side pic - Alexis planted these sunflowers from seeds. We weren't sure what was growing but they are tall and fun to watch! She may be the one with a green thumb.
